Continuing Disruption Across Wellington Rail Network

Continuing Disruption Across Wellington Rail Network

Adverse weather is continuing to cause disruption across the Wellington Rail Network.

Services have been suspended on the Kapiti, Melling and Johnsonville Lines until further notice. KiwiRail track crews are working across the network to assess damage caused by this weather event and determine timelines for reopening of the closed lines.

There is a number of slips and flooding on the Kapiti Line including a slip south of Paraparaumu station, flooding on tracks near McKays Junction and north of Paekakariki and also flooding at the Kenepuru and Linden stations.

The Johnsonville Line has been closed as a safety precaution due to the line recently experiencing a slip and the Melling Line is experiencing surface flooding and is also closed.

KiwiRail track staff have advised that work to clear the slip near Paraparaumu station will take at least six hours and ongoing track inspections are occurring across the Network, however the adverse weather is delaying site work.

Bus replacements are limited and impacted by road closures and high traffic volumes therefore KiwiRail is advising customers to avoid travel today.

It is expected that afternoon peak services will be significantly disrupted and more information will be available this afternoon.
