Latest update on Kapiti flooding as at 8pm

Civil Defence Emergency Assistance Centres have been stood down in the Kāpiti District after a day of weather chaos.

More rain is forecast especially in the early morning so it is expected to be a busy day again tomorrow.

27 homes have been evacuated throughout the district because of today’s flooding but displaced residents seem to have found accommodation with friends and family.

Fresh crews are on and ready to respond through the night, particularly as more rain is forecast.

Residents in flood prone areas are advised to be vigilant if they feel they are in any danger, they should call 111.

One important message we would like to get across . People, particularly children should stay out of water. It’s not a place to play for a variety of health and safety reasons. Water levels are unpredictable and can rise really quickly.
