Waikato weekly traffic update May 15 – May 21
The NZ Transport Agency advises
people travelling on State Highway 1 (SH1) in the Waikato to
expect delays and allow extra time to get to their
destination, as work on the Waikato Expressway
continues.
Stop/go traffic
management and speed restrictions will be in place on
various sections this month as work ramps up.
The Rangiriri section now has a 70km/h speed restriction in place. This speed is likely to stay in place until the project is complete to ensure the safety of all motorists traveling through the site.
Further south on the Cambridge section, an 80km/h speed restriction and shoulder closures will be in place next week between Airport Road and racecourse road to allow for construction works.
Shoulder closures will be in place on State Highway 1B between 129 Victoria Road and 183 Victoria Road Cambridge. Stop/go traffic management is planned in this area from May 18 until May 22 for works to connect local roads to the expressway.
A 50km/h speed restriction will be in place between Golf Hill and Tirau Road to allow contractors to carry out road rehabilitation works starting May 18 at 9am until May 29, 12pm.
Other road work sites where delays are possible are detailed below to allow motorists to plan ahead when travelling.
SH3-Raynes Road
between Hamilton and airport turnoff
(SH21)
Traffic management and a speed
restriction of 30km/h are in place. Motorists should allow
an extra five minutes or consider using SH1 and SH21 if
travelling to Hamilton Airport.
Contractors are building
a right-turn bay for north-bound traffic and realigning the
corner.
SH3, Kihikihi
Final
surfacing will be undertaken over the next two weeks to
complete the repair. Speed restrictions will remain in place
and from time to time stop/go traffic management may be in
place. Motorists are advised to expect minor delays.
SH3/37, Waitomo turnoff roundabout
construction
Work continues until end of May.
Traffic is being managed through the site. Speed restriction
of 30km/h remains in place. Motorists are advised to expect
delays of approximately five minutes.
SH23,
Te Pahu
Stop/go traffic management and speed
restrictions are in place to allow contractors to carry out
drainage works and repair a guard rail. Motorists are
advised to expect short delays.
SH23, Raglan
Stop/go
traffic management will be in place at times this week to
allow contractors to install a new culvert. Motorists are
advised to expect minor delays.
SH29 Hinuera
safety barrier installation
Traffic management
and speed restrictions are in place at the Mangawhara Steam
Bridge, Hinuera until early June. Contractors are
installing a safety barrier on this bridge during daylight
hours from Monday to Saturday. Motorists are advised to
expect short delays.
