Fatal shooting in Palmerston North

Shortly before 7pm on Tuesday evening police were called to a residential address in Awapuni, Palmerston North.

It was established that a man had been shot inside the address and has subsequently died.

A number of adults were at the address. Those people are currently being supported by family, victim support and police staff.

An investigation has been commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. A full investigation will be completed. This will include interviews of those at the house and a scene examination.

We are not looking for any other persons at this time. A firearm has been recovered at the address.

This investigation is in its infancy. I will not be able to provide any further detail about the deceased man until all family and those close to him have been informed. I also can't make any further comment about the firearm involved. I need to know a lot more about the series of events before this detail can be made public.
