Sky Tower lights up as 750 firefighters race to top

Auckland’s skyline will glow red and white from Friday 22 May to Sunday 24 May in recognition of the 750 firefighters racing to the top in support of Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand.

Firefighters around New Zealand have already raised close to $932,000 through the event, with all funds going towards helping everyday Kiwi families in need when a loved one is diagnosed with a blood cancer or related condition.

This is the eleventh year firefighters have raced up the 1,103 stairs of the Sky Tower, with participants also wearing 25kg of full firefighter gear.

The Sky Tower is New Zealand’s tallest man-made structure and SKYCITY frequently lights the Sky Tower to show support for a number of organisations and special events.

SKYCITY often lights the Tower for charities or community initiatives that we support financially, or to mark national holidays, milestones or other celebrations.
