Assault at Waikanae train station

Assault at Waikanae train station.

Kapiti Mana Police are investigating a ‘nasty’ assault that occurred at the Waikanae Train Station Tuesday morning.

Detctive Senior Sergeant Grant Ferguson said that at about 9.30am on Tuesday 26th May an assault occurred on the railway station platform.

“It appears a weapon was used in the assault, and a 31 year old man has received a gash to his forehead.

It is very fortunate that we are not looking at a more serious outcome for the victim.” Mr Ferguson said.

“At this early stage of the investigation, it appears the two parties involved are not known to each other.

This is an area of focus for the investigation team,” Mr Ferguson said.

Police are aware that there were a number of people in and around the Waikanae Train Station that may have seen this incident, or the offender.

It is also possible that the offender has got on a southbound train, shortly after the attack.

“This brazen violence in a public place is of real concern to us, and we are committed to responding quickly to ensure the public’s safety, and preventing further incidents.”

Police are seeking information from people who may have witnessed the attack, or seen the offender that day, or who know the identity of the offender.”

Anyone with information can contact the Kapiti Mana Police.
