New West Coast state highway maintenance contract

New West Coast state highway maintenance contract being negotiated

The NZ Transport Agency is currently negotiating a new maintenance contract for the West Coast’s state highway network with a partnership led by Fulton Hogan.

Fulton Hogan is the preferred supplier for the new $89.9 million contract which will run over seven years and is designed to deliver greater efficiencies in terms of operation and costs, says the Transport Agency’s Highway Manager Colin Knaggs.

“The Network Outcomes Contracts are a new way of doing business. In the past, there have been a number of contracts delivering the maintenance works on the network.

“With one contract for the whole area, from Mokihinui in the north to the Haast Pass in the south, including the inland state highway routes to Arthur’s Pass and Lewis Pass, the Transport Agency is expecting savings across the board,” he says.

Fulton Hogan has formed a partnership with professional engineering services provider Opus and local contracting companies Westreef, Westroads and MBD Contracting to deliver the new contract.

“The new contract is currently being negotiated with the preferred supplier and is expected to be awarded next month.”

Mr Knaggs says the contract will be performance-based, with the focus being on the delivery of good quality outcomes for the network and all road users.

“Fulton Hogan have been working on the West Coast state highway network for the last decade, undertaking the majority of our resealing work and also traffic management services. The company has established depots throughout the area and have a good working knowledge of the region.”

The new contract will take effect on 1 September 2015.

Mr Knaggs thanked all the contractors who in recent years have contributed to the maintenance and management of the West Coast network.
