White out Wellington in support of our team – Junior All Whites
Mayor Celia Wade-Brown is asking
Wellingtonians and visitors alike to wear white and show our
support for the Junior All Whites who will be playing in the
FIFA U-20 World Cup in Wellington 5 June.
FIFA U-20 World Cup 2015 is being watched by up to 300 million people all over the world and all eyes will be on us. This fact has not been lost on our Junior All Whites; some of which already play for overseas clubs.
“I’m wearing white on Friday to support the Junior All Whites,” says Mayor Celia Wade-Brown. “Let’s get behind the team one hundred per cent.”
The Fever Pitch in Civic Square will be showing the colour white in the lead up to the New Zealand vs Myanmar match. A football pre match between community teams representing Myanmar and New Zealand will be played out from 12–1pm. Whitireia’s Performing Arts group will add to the New Zealand flavor along with a traditional New Zealand lamb roast served free to the first 200 arrivals on Thursday 4 June.
There will be a billboard for visitors to the Fever Pitch to send their support to the team, which will go out outside the Railway Station in time for the New Zealand vs Myanmar match.
Junior All Whites to watch out for:
New Zealand captain Bill Tuiloma returned to New Zealand and played in the U-20 friendly against Honduras in the lead up to the tournament after being released by French Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille. He opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a free kick struck from 25 yards.
A talented midfielder or striker, Alex Rufer has professional play in his blood being the son of Shane Rufer and nephew of Wynton Rufer who both played at the highest level in Europe. Rufer plays for Wellington Phoenix and played seven games for the New Zealand U-17 team, scoring three goals in all three games at the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2013.
The centre forward Monty Patterson is striving to make his name at Ipswich Town where he's part of their youth set up and Phoenix star Matthew Ridenton has also been marked as a player who is going to excel on the world stage.
