Upper Hutt’s Expressions contract renewed
UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 10 JUN
2015—The Mayor of Upper Hutt City Council, Wayne Guppy and
the Chair of the Expressions Arts and Entertainment
Charitable Trust, Peter Richardson, recently signed to renew
the agreement between the Trust and Upper Hutt City Council.
Council leases the Expressions venue to the Trust and
provides an operational subsidy each year which goes towards
assisting the Trust in funding the day-to-day operation of
Expressions Arts and Entertainment Centre.
The Trust is tasked with operating Expressions as a complex suitable for use and purposes associated with cultural activities, the arts, recreation, and leisure, as well as performances, exhibitions, conferences, and other activities of a cultural, artistic, recreation or leisure nature.
“Expressions has developed a very broad appeal and has received national and international recognition for the quality of the shows and events brought to the centre,” says Mayor Guppy. “The spin-off benefits that Expressions is bringing to Upper Hutt with visitor numbers and positive publicity is great for the city.”
Expressions Arts and Entertainment Centre is experiencing a surge in local and national visitor numbers on the back of a big performance season and two major exhibitions: Squid Soup’s Submergence and National Geographic’s 50 Greatest Photographs. The centre also recently brought home the Museums Aotearoa Award for Most Innovative Public Programme for the 2014 WWI Regimental Dinner.
Chairman of the Trust, Peter Richardson paid tribute to the other trustees, Director of Expressions, Leanne Wickham, and the wonderful staff at Expressions, “Leanne and her staff have done a remarkable job in providing the Upper Hutt community with programmes, events, and shows that are the envy of many other arts and entertainment facilities throughout the country, and have provided national recognition for Expressions and Upper Hutt.”
The new lease agreement is for three years, commencing 1 July 2015.
