Young people of Upper Hutt celebrated


Upper Hutt’s Young Achievers were celebrated at the 2015 awards ceremony held at Expressions Arts and Entertainment Centre on Wednesday 3 June.

UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 10 JUN 2015—Young people of Upper Hutt were celebrated at the annual Young Achievers and Youth Civic Awards last week. The event was held on Wednesday 3 June at Expressions Arts and Entertainment Centre. The awards night was an opportunity to acknowledge the achievements, both big and small, of the young people of Upper Hutt.

Guests and nominees were entertained by performances from internationally celebrated singer Anita Prime, and performers Riley Dick and Holly Main-Grant from Arts a Go Go! performing arts school.

Director of BaseFit, Manuel Dalton, was the night’s guest speaker. Mr Dalton talked about the power of unleashing the potential of young people.

Nominees were nominated in the categories of Sports Award, Cultural Award, Leadership Award, Social Hero as well as the Perseverance Award and Mayor’s Award. The Mayor’s Award was presented by His Worship the Mayor, Wayne Guppy, to Murphy Taramai for his achievements in rugby demonstrating great sportsmanship and leadership.

Upper Hutt Mayor, Wayne Guppy said of the nominees, “The levels of nominations have been outstanding! It makes me proud to live in a community where so many young people are achieving great things. Whether it is through the arts, leadership, sports or for being compassionate to others, our youth are hardworking and, most importantly, valuable contributors to our society.”
