New awards to mark Porirua’s 50th birthday

New awards to mark Porirua’s 50th birthday

Whether they be a tall totara or a small hebe; if you know someone who has made a positive difference to Porirua City then you can nominate them for a new award.

Mayor Nick Leggett said the one-off awards were being held as part of celebrations to mark Porirua’s 50th birthday.

“The 50 Years Awards will celebrate the significant contribution that 50 living people have made, and continue to make, to the development of Porirua as a city,” Mayor Leggett said.

“The Awards are for the unsung heroes who quietly get on with making a positive difference to other people’s lives in Porirua. They are also for the people who are well-known in the city, the region, nationally and internationally for what they have achieved.”

Winners will be presented with a medal designed around the Porirua 50th logo.

No categories are being set and individuals can be nominated for achievements from everything from sporting prowess to everyday kindness.

The awards will be judged by Mayor Leggett, Deputy-Mayor ‘Ana Coffey, Cr Litea Ah Hoi, former Mayors of Porirua; Cr John Burke and Cr Jenny Brash, with Ngāti Toa Rangatira Kaumātua Taku Parai.

Nominations close on 31 July 2015.

More information plus forms and guidelines are available on the Council’s website where the form can be downloaded or filled in on-line. Hard copies can be picked up from the Council’s front counter in Cobham Court, Porirua libraries, the i-site and the Arena.
