MTG hosts award winning architect

‘Perilous landscapes’ and ‘passive environments’ are just two of the themes that award winning architect Pete Bossley will speak about at MTG Century Theatre on Tuesday 16 June.

Mr Bossley, awarded the New Zealand Institute of Architecture’s Gold Medal in 2012 in recognition of his outstanding career, has been invited to speak in Napier by the Gisborne Hawke’s Bay Branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects.

Mr Bossley’s talk, Themes and Obsessions, will draw on his more than 30 years’ worth of work, exploring the themes that underpin his notable projects and explaining a number of his continuing architectural obsessions.

Bossley Architects was acknowledged in the 2015 Gisborne Hawke’s Bay Architecture Awards held earlier this month.

Mr Bossley studied at the University of Auckland’s School of Architecture in the 1970s. He set up a practice with several fellow graduates and moved from altering villas and bungalows to designing the large and complex Heatley House in St Heliers, a building to which he has subsequently added. One of his other early projects was the Rainbow’s End amusement park in Auckland.

He was also involved with the design of Te Papa in the capital, Seresin House in the Marlborough Sounds, and the McCahon Artist Retreat in Titirangi.

Entry to the 6pm talk is by gold coin donation.
