Rates set in adopted 10 Year Plan

The Palmerston North City Council has unanimously adopted its 10 Year Plan and set rates for the coming financial year.

The 2015-25 Plan has been developed following extensive community consultation. Copies were sent to all households, community meetings were held and residents were surveyed via e-mail and Facebook.

The plan includes provision for all the day to day services like libraries, water, parks and reserves as well as maintaining and upgrading roads and buildings.

It also provides for new city-wide projects like shared cycle paths and walkways and upgrades to the Central Business District to improve the prosperity of The Square and Broadway.

The Council is also focussed on improving the health of the Manawatū River and is looking at options for the disposal and treatment of wastewater.

To provide for those projects and services, total rates will increase by 3.8 per cent for the coming financial year, then by 3.9 per cent and 4.5 per cent in the following two years.

“We’ve listened to the community and the Council has achieved a good balance between what we do and what it costs,” says PNCC Mayor, Grant Smith and Chief Executive, Paddy Clifford.
