‘Mill and fill’ programme rolls out in Tauranga

The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists to expect delays when travelling on state highways through Tauranga over the next fortnight, as contractors carry out ‘mill and fill’ works as part of an asphalt repair programme.

Stop/go traffic management and speed restrictions will be in place on sites along SH2A/ 15th Avenue, SH2 Takitimu Drive, and SH36 at times during the works, which involve digging up sections of road and laying hot asphalt to repair the pavement.

· Contractors will work on several SH2A/15th Avenue sites from Sunday June 28through to Thursday July 2.

· SH2 Takitimu Drive sites on Sunday July 5; and

· SH36 locations on Monday July 6.

The Transport Agency’s Bay of Plenty journey manager, Nigel D’Ath says the work will be carried out at night between the hours of 7pm and 6am to reduce the impact on traffic, however motorists should allow extra time when travelling on the routes.

“This work will extend the life of the road and reduce potholes over winter and create a smooth ride,” he says.

“I would like to thanks motorists in advance for their patience and understandingas we work to complete this work just in time for winter.”

Other road work which may cause delays is detailed below to help people plan their journey.

SH2A Turret Road – Kerb and channelling

Speed restrictions and traffic management will be in place from Thursday July 2while contractors undertake kerb and channel works on a stretch of Turret Road.

Work hours are from 9am until 4pm to reduce traffic delays at peak times and some of the work may be carried out at night. Motorists are advised to allow an extra five minutes when travelling on the route.

SH2 and SH30, Whakatane district – water cutting programme

Stop/go traffic management will be in place on roads in the Whakatane district this week as contractors continue rolling out a water cutting programme.

Water cutting with a high pressure water jet removes areas of excess bitumen that have appeared during the hot weather over summer. It helps to improve grip and prolong the life of the road.

Transport Agency contractors will be working at sites on SH2 between Otamarakau/Pikowai and Waimana, and SH30 between Awakeri and Whakatane until early July.

The traffic controls will allow crews to work as quickly and safely as possible while keeping delays to road users to a minimum.

SH2 Papamoa - Shoulder earthworks and benching

People travelling on SH2 past the old site of the Papamoa Hall should expect short delays while contractors carry out earthworks and benching works.

Contra-flow traffic management and speed restrictions of 30km/h or 50/km/h will be in place at times until June 31. Motorists are asked to be alert and drive with care around the work site.

SH2 north safety works

Stop/ go traffic management, lane changes and speed restrictions will be in place along parts of SH2 between Tauranga and Waihi this week as a major safety improvement programme continues. Motorists are advised to allow an extra 15minutes when travelling on this route.

SH33 Paengaroa

New pedestrian islands and guard railing are being installed on SH33 near Paengaroa this month. Motorists should allow for five minute delays due to stop/go traffic management and speed restrictions. Work is expected to be complete byJuly 1.
