Creep and Crawl After Dark at the Museum

Creep and Crawl After Dark at the Museum

Grab a torch and bring the family to a creepy crawly night at Canterbury Museum!

The ever popular Night at the Museum school holiday event returns for four nights in July (7,9, 14 and 16) and this year’s event promises to be bigger – and creepier – than ever.

Almost 7,000 people attended over the four nights in 2014. This year’s events are expected to be busy, fun and full of surprises with the theme of Creepy Crawly Night at the Museum, to coincide with our current exhibition Spiders Pūngāwerewere Up Close! which features a live red-back spider spinning her web.

Visitors are encouraged to dress up as spiders, bugs or other creepy crawlies and to bring a torch to explore the nooks and crannies of the Museum’s galleries.

“Many people ask what the Museum is like after dark,” says Museum Director, Anthony Wright. “We think it’s pretty magical so this is a chance to come and see for yourself.”

This year children (aged 14 and under) are invited to take a photo of themselves in their creepy crawly costume while they are at the Museum, and to post it on Canterbury Museum’s Facebook page to be in to win a creepy crawly prize pack.

The Museum Café will have creepy-crawly (but still yummy) food for sale and smaller children can enjoy storytelling in the Visitors Lounge.

The free KidsFest event begins on Tuesday 7 July and continues on Thursday 9, Tuesday 14 and finishes on Thursday 16 July from 5.30 pm to 8 pm. Entry is free, but donations are appreciated. Visitors are asked to bring a torch. The Museum Store and Cafe will be open for a late night snack. Under 14 year olds must be supervised. Details of the competition are on the Museum website www.canterburymuseum.com
