Missing Upper Hutt man found

Missing Upper Hutt man Graham Carr has been located alive and is currently receiving medical treatment.

A Police dog team located Mr Carr, 66, just before midday today in the Te Marua Water Treatment plant area, after information from the public helped to narrow the search area.

When found, he was severely hypothermic with his condition listed as status 1.

He was airlifted by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to hospital where he is being supported by family and is receiving treatment.

"We're very relieved that Graham has been found as it was unlikely that he could have lasted much longer given the very cold conditions in the area," said Police Search and Rescue Incident Controller Constable Hamish Knight.

"We're pleased we've been able to reunite him with his family who are understandably very relieved, as are all the search teams who have been working tirelessly to locate Graham since he was reported missing yesterday afternoon."

Mr Knight thanked all of those involved in the search, which included volunteers from LandSAR, the Upper Hutt Community Response Team, Ambulance, Police staff and the crew of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

"Thanks to the combined efforts of all the teams involved, and the excellent information provided by many members of the public about sightings of Graham, it's great that we've to been able to find him and get him home," Mr Knight said.
