Stabbing in Lower Hutt

A man is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in the neck in a Lower Hutt pizza shop.

The incident happened in the foyer of the Queens Rd, Lower Hutt branch of the pizza shop shortly after 9pm on Tuesday, Detective Senior Sergeant John Van Den Heuvel said.

The man was taken to Wellington Hospital with a stab wound to his neck. He had surgery and was in a stable condition on Wednesday morning. A 41-year-old Lower Hutt man was arrested nearby after being tracked by police dogs.

He was due to appear in Hutt Valley District Court on Wednesday. It did not appear the victim and alleged attacker were previously known to each other.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident. No further information is available on this matter.
