KCDC Play Boat Cost Double Annual Public Arts Budget

KCDC Play Boat Cost Double Annual Public Arts Budget

Councillor Jackie Elliott

The Chair of Kapiti's Public Arts Panel, Cr Jackie Elliott is dismayed the total budget for a park upgrade at Paraparaumu Beach at $105,000 is more than twice the annual budget for acquiring new public art in Kapiti.

The playground upgrade includes a life size purpose built aluminium boat and trailer amongst other equipment in a $90,000 package from one supplier.

"Meanwhile $40,000 a year is a minuscule budget for adding to the public art collection that enhances the vibrant creative coast environment and supports our sizeable artistic community" says Cr Elliott.

" It is fortunate we are able to carry over our budget from one year to the next to make decent purchases every few years. As well as buying art, the panel is also happy to consider philanthropic art donations from trusts, businesses or families as a way to increase our art public collection. I can be contacted through the KCDC website to discuss these opportunities" says Cr Elliott.
