Bidwill Street to close for wall construction

Bidwill Street to close for wall construction

From Monday 22 July Bidwill Street – a popular shortcut from Brooklyn Road to Wallace Street in Mt Cook - will be closed to through traffic while a new retaining wall is constructed.

The $240,000 project is necessary to prevent the collapse of the road – cracks have appeared in the bank beneath the road in recent months. It is thought the subsidence has caused a stormwater main beneath the road to also fracture so the piping will also be replaced.

Work on the retaining wall is scheduled to start next week – and Bidwill Street is expected to be closed until late September. Pedestrians will still be able to walk past the construction site.

Wellington City Council has contracted Retaining and Civil Construction Ltd to do this work.
