Great Response To Tauranga And Western Bay Community Awards

The difference made by one hundred and two community groups based in Tauranga and the Western Bay will be celebrated through this year’s Trustpower Community Awards, with entries for the Awards now closed.

The Trustpower Community Awards, which recognise and reward voluntary groups for the outstanding contribution they make to the local community, are run in partnership with the Tauranga and Western Bay Councils. The Tauranga Awards received 52 entries for 51 different groups and the Western Bay received their second highest number yet of 54 entries for 51 groups.

Trustpower Community Relations Representative Jess Somerville says the Trustpower Community Awards help to recognise the people who put their hearts and souls into helping out.

“The generosity of volunteers and the variety of projects they lend a hand to for their local community never ceases to amaze me. Once again the Tauranga and Western Bay community has got behind their volunteers, and I’m stoked that we will be celebrating so many talented, resourceful and hardworking volunteers through this year’s awards.

“I would like to thank all of the people who put so much effort into the entries we received this year,” says Miss Somerville.

The Awards cover five categories; Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, and Education and Child/Youth Development. The category winners receive $500 and runners-up receive $250.
