Plans for new Grey health facilities progressing

Plans for the new Grey Base Hospital and Integrated Family Health Centre are now well into the “Developed Design” phase and at this stage it is anticipated that the first sod will be turned in late October.

In May last year the Government committed to a new Grey Hospital and Integrated Family Health Centre. The new facility will incorporate primary care services, including community pharmacy and general practice, alongside hospital services.

The project design team has presented the final concept designs to West Coast DHB staff. A short video explaining the project’s progress is available on the DHB’s website (www.westcoastdhb.health.nz), on the new Grey facilities pages.

Architect Adam Flowers says the new design allows for much more flexibility in the way that the spaces can be used to deliver services.

West Coast DHB Programme Director Michael Frampton thanked the many DHB staff and health system partners for the hundreds of hours of time that they have dedicated to getting the design to this stage.

“We’ve had input from a wide range of people including nurses, doctors, allied health professionals and teams, our dedicated maintenance staff, our information technology team, administrators, managers and our transalpine partners in Canterbury over the past two years. We’re confident that on the basis of this input, the detailed facility plans that are now coming together are going to meet the needs of the Coast well into the future,” Mr Frampton says.

Plans are expected to be submitted to the Grey District Council for land use consent shortly and it is expected a building contractor will be identified in the next few months.

Construction is expected to commence in January and the DHB is currently anticipating the building will be completed in April 2017.
