Changes for Northern Gateway Toll Road

Changes for Northern Gateway Toll Road

The NZ Transport Agency is reminding customers that changes which will make it easier to use the Northern Gateway Toll Road north of Auckland will come into effect this week.

From July 31, customers can expect a new look, easier to use website, a new prepaid account option and easier cash payment channel.

To enable the switch over from the old tolling system to the new one, customers won’t be able to make any transactions or manage their accounts from 8pm on the 29th of July until12.01am on July 31.

The cameras on the toll gantry will still be working so when the system comes back online, any journeys made during the switch over will be captured and assigned to your account or against your pre-purchased tolls as usual. If you don’t have an account or pre-purchased tolls you will be able to pay your toll online or over the counter from 31 July.

Please note: because of the length of the system shut down, there may be some delay in customers seeing their tolls on the website or their tolls being available for payment. We expect the majority of customers to be able see and pay for their tolls by Saturday 1 August at the latest.

Customers who go to the www.tollroad.govt.nz website will be redirected to our new and improved tolling pages on the NZ Transport Agency website.

The ageing payment kiosks at Dairy Flat and Puhoi will be removed and easier in-person cash payment options will be available at 33 upper North Island BP and Caltex service stations. These over the counter payments will be accepted in cash or by debit or credit card. A $1.20 transaction fee applies.

The easiest option for drivers is still to pay tolls online with no administration fee atwww.tollroad.govt.nz, or set up an online account.

The Transport Agency’s National Manager for Delivery, Robyn Elston, says there have been significant improvements to tolling technology since the Northern Gateway Toll Road opened in 2009 and the upgraded system will now make it as easy as possible for people to use all New Zealand toll roads through fast, convenient and simple payment methods.

Two new toll roads in Tauranga will also be added to the system – the Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road and the Takitimu Drive Toll Road. Customers with tolling accounts, including existing account holders, will be able to pay for trips on all three toll roads with a single account.

Gordon Campbell: On National’s Fantasy Trip To La La Landlord Land

How much political capital is Christopher Luxon willing to burn through in order to deliver his $2.9 billion gift to landlords? Evidently, Luxon is:
(A) unable to cost the policy accurately. As Anna Burns-Francis pointed out to him on Breakfast TV, the original ”rock solid” $2.1 billion cost he was touting to voters last year has now blown out to $2.9 billion. (That’s a 38% size error in the calculations.)
(B) unable to provide assurance that this handout won’t simply be pocketed by landlords
(C) unable to explain why Treasury (in research as recent as August 2023) wasn’t citing the loss of interest deductibility as a prime factor driving up rents.
More than anything, the Great Landlords Handout undermines the government’s alarmist talk about the state of the country’s books...
