Two arrests following ram raid in New Brighton area of Christchurch

At around 3.40am this morning (29 July 2015) two vehicles were involved in ram raids on two service stations and one Dairy in the New Brighton area of Christchurch.

Detective Inspector Tony Hill says “as a result of proactive patrolling in the New Brighton area this morning two cars were observed by Police in the process of ram raiding the Bower Ave Dairy

“Two offenders were arrested at the scene while two other offenders fled the scene in the second vehicle. As they fled the scene their vehicle has collided with a patrol car which was not occupied at the time. The fleeing vehicle, a grey Nissan Terrano registration US9037, was initially pursued by Police along New Brighton Road but this was abandoned due to the manner of driving” said Detective Inspector Hill.

Police inquiries are ongoing to locate the fleeing vehicle and the two offenders.

The officer was not injured during the incident.

A 21 year old man and 17 year old woman will appear in Christchurch District Court today on charges relating to this incident.
