Police investigate complaint following rugby match

Canterbury Police today confirmed that they have received a complaint from the General Manager of Community Rugby for the Canterbury Rugby Union relating to the alleged racial abuse at the Senior Metro competition club final on 26 July 2015.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Cottam said "we are assessing the complaint and will speak to the player concerned, and work with the Canterbury Rugby Union to identify the person or persons involved."

He said "it is unacceptable that in this day and age anyone is subjected to any form of discrimination particularly racial abuse and I urge anyone responsible to show some moral courage and come forward to discuss and resolve the matter"

Anyone with information relating to this alleged incident can contact Constable Luke Vaughn on 03 363 7400.

Information can also be provided anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online www.crimestoppers-nz.org
