Mayor announces Development Auckland board

Mayor Len Brown has announced the membership of the board of Auckland’s newest Council Controlled Organisation (CCO), Development Auckland.

The Development Auckland board will in part be comprised of members of the boards of Auckland Council Property Limited (ACPL) and Waterfront Auckland which Development Auckland replaces.

The Mayor is describing the CCO as a step change in the council’s ability to deliver faster, better quality urban redevelopment across Auckland.

“The members of the new board have a broad range of business and community experience and I know they are will be raring to get on with the job.”

The chair of the board will be current ACPL Chair Sir John Wells who will be joined by Anne Blackburn and Richard Aitken from ACPL and Richard Leggat, Evan Davies and Susan Macken from Waterfront Auckland.

Three additional appointments have been approved by the council’s CCO Monitoring and Governance Committee - Mike Pohio, Martin Udale and Paul Majurey.

Deputy Mayor Penny Hulse chairs the CCO Governance and Monitoring Committee.

“Development Auckland will take a holistic and high level view of what is required to enable speedy, quality development of brownfield locations where ownership of land is fragmented which makes it difficult for developers to deliver,” she says.

"The new Development Auckland will use the experience gained and the lessons learned by Waterfront Auckland and ACPL to transform town and metropolitan centres across Auckland."

Development Auckland will come into existence on September 1, 2015.
