New Qantas Wellington-Brisbane service welcomed by Council

New Qantas Wellington-Brisbane service welcomed by Wellington City Council

Today’s announcement of a new Qantas summertime Wellington-Brisbane service has been welcomed by Wellington City Council.

Councillor Jo Coughlan, Chair of the Council’s Economic Growth Committee, says: “This new service is further evidence that airlines are enthusiastic about the growing demand for direct international flights into and out of Wellington.

“The demand is two way - demand from Wellingtonians for international flights but also increasing demand for inbound tourists and people wanting to do business in the Wellington region and central New Zealand.

Deputy Mayor Justin Lester, the Council’s Airport spokesman, says the new service shows there is evident demand for more international links in and out of Wellington. “This bodes well for our plans for better long-haul international services in and out of Wellington.”

Cr Coughlan says the new Qantas service will add more than 12,000 seats on the Wellington-Brisbane route over the months they operate.
