Small Rally Doesn’t Paint Full Picture

“The Rates Rip-off Rally held today may have been small in number but it doesn’t accurately show the genuine anger ratepayers feel about being treated as a perpetual piggy bank by Auckland Council,” said centre-right Mayoral candidate Stephen Berry follow the rally today.

The Affordable Auckland candidate says, “I get the full picture when I knock on doors and meet the residents of Auckland. Their response is near unanimous; they have had enough of continuous large rates increases.”

Mr. Berry repeated his commitment to keeping rates low at the rally today saying, “Council must prioritise spending out of the existing budget and if a project cannot be afforded one year we will have to economise until it can be afforded the next – not keep on jacking up rates.”

For those voters who are rightly sceptical about politicians Berry responds, “I’ve been promoting small government and lower taxation for years. You can be sure when I say zero rates increases above inflation, I mean it!”
