Appeal for witnesses to crash involving cyclist in Avondale

Appeal for witnesses to crash involving cyclist in Avondale

Canterbury Police are appealing for witnesses following a hit and run near the PAK’n’SAVE entrance on Wainoni Road on 8 August 2015 which left a cyclist needing surgery.

Senior Constable Peter Carrington says “The 18 year old cyclist was travelling south-bound along Wainoni Road between 9.15-10.15pm when a black Toyota, possibly a Corolla, has turned into the PAK’n’SAVE car park in front of him. Police understand that the white bicycle has collided with the side of the car causing the rider to fall off and the rear wheel of the car has then run over the cyclist’s leg causing significant injuries.”

“Police believe there were two people in the black Toyota at the time of the crash, a male driver and female passenger. The driver did not stop and drove back out of the PAK’n’SAVE car park. It is not known in what direction the vehicle was headed when it left the car park.”

“We are also keen to identify the good Samaritan who took the victim to Christchurch Hospital A&E in her car after the crash. The victim has recently had surgery on his leg and is recovering at home” explained Senior Constable Carrington

Canterbury Police urge the driver or passenger in the black Toyota to come forward and also appeal for any witnesses to the incident and the good Samaritan who came to the victim’s aid to call 03 363 7400.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
