Missing aircraft found with two survivors
24 August

The wreckage of a light aicraft missing overnight in Taranaki has been found - with both occupants en route to New Plymouth Hospital with moderate injuries.

The wreckage was located this morning 8km west of Whangamomona by the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter and the survivors winched aboard.

Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand (RCCNZ) search and rescue mission coordinator Chris Henshaw said.

"Everyone involved in the search is obviously delighted with the outcome. It has been an excellent effort in difficult terrain and weather conditions," he said.

" It has been an outstanding effort from Taranaki Rescue Helicopter, the Defence Force, the Phillips Search and Rescue Trust aircraft from Hamilton, and the NZ Police."
