Appointment to Road Controlling Authorities Forum

After convening a group of 12 rural and provincial Councils collaborating on land use effects on low volume roads, Wairoa District Council Engineering Manager, Jamie Cox has been appointed onto the Executive Board of the Road Controlling Authorities Forum (RCAF).

The forum represents all roading authorities in New Zealand and in this role, Mr Cox will be at the forefront of national roading best practice development.

Wairoa District Council Chief Executive, Fergus Power says “I’m so delighted that Jamie has been appointed to RCAF. Jamie is considered a sector leader in this space and I’m not surprised that his expertise has been sought after and co-opted by the forum.”

“Jamie has done and continues to do great work for Wairoa and other rural communities, ensuring that rural communities have a voice at a national level. I commend his relentless advocacy for a fair deal for rural communities and all the research that he and his colleagues have done to ensure that the inequities faced by rural communities are constantly in front of decision-makers at central government.”

“His work has contributed to Wairoa’s funding assistance rates for approved land transport activities increasing, he is a founding member of a special interest group made up of rural council officers to undertake research, collaborate and lobby central government for equity for rural districts and he recently received an international exchange award for the work he has done on the improvement of national investment levels to rural districts, so I am not at all surprised he has been appointed to the Executive Board of RCAF”, Mr Power said.

RCAF is an incorporated society made up of road asset managers and roading professionals from all territorial local authorities (except the Chatham Islands), the Department of Conservation and the New Zealand Transport Agency. It provides a knowledge community for all owners of road assets within New Zealand to support the development of nationally consistent best practice, and standards and guidelines for roading investment and management, through research, education and the exchange of information for the benefit of all road owners and road users.
