Disorder - Ashburton - Canterbury

Four males in their 20’s were arrested by Ashburton Police staff in Burnett Street after having left a local bar at closing time just after 3.00am.

Police were alerted to the incident by local security staff and arrived in the area to find a large group of intoxicated males fighting and acting in a disorderly manner on Tancred Street.

When Police arrived the group started moving into vacant land that runs between Tancred Street and Burnett Street.

The group ended up on Burnett Street near the Arcade where a number of windows were broken as a result of the activity.

The fight was brought under control by Police with assistance from local security and Hotel staff.

It is believed that the events developed from a verbal argument involving the males and some of their associates.

There were no serious injuries or weapons involved in the fighting and this matter is not connected to the recent gang related event in Davis Crescent on Thursday afternoon.
