NZ Bus invests in 23 new double decker buses

NZ Bus invests in 23 new double decker buses to enhance customer experience

NZ Bus, New Zealand’s largest bus operator, is delighted to announce its purchase of twenty-three Enviro500 double decker buses from Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL), for its Auckland operations.

NZ Bus Chief Executive Officer, Zane Fulljames, says the addition of the new buses to the NZ Bus fleet, demonstrates its commitment to supporting Auckland Transport’s goals in transforming Auckland’s public transport network, as well as its continued focus on service improvements.

“Our investment in the new double decker buses not only reflects our partnership with Auckland Transport to deliver its plans for increasing patronage across the Auckland’s public transport network, but also emphasises our focus on providing safe, reliable and comfortable journeys for our customers”, said Mr Fulljames.

”With nearly 700 buses travelling over 26 million km’s and carrying over 39 million passengers in the Auckland region during the last year, the new buses will help us to further deliver value for our customers and partners,” added Mr Fulljames.

NZ Bus has agreed with Auckland Transport for fifteen of the buses to be introduced on Mt Eden Road, and eight buses on the 881 service on the North Shore. With both of these corridors experiencing passenger growth, due to significantly improved service performance, the introduction of double decker buses and an additional 30 percent capacity is expected to help generate even more growth.

The new buses will be assembled at the Kiwi Bus Builders plant in Tauranga and are expected to be introduced into service between April and July 2016.

“The introduction of double deckers is an exciting step for our business, customers and staff, and we are working hard to ensure a seamless launch,” said Mr Fulljames.
