Emergency and urgent medical transport available in Kaitaia

Emergency and urgent medical transport still available in Kaitaia

Emergency and urgent medical transport is still available for Kaitaia residents despite Kaitaia airport currently being closed due to protest action.

The NEST helicopter lands at Kaitaia Hospital and Starship National Air Ambulance have confirmed that they are satisfied that there will be no issues with landing at Kaitaia airport, should they be required to assist with the transfer of a patient.

While there were three medical practitioners unable to travel by air to Kaitaia today two specialist doctors travelled by road and their clinics continued as planned.

Some members of the community have been affected by a small number of clinics being cancelled today and we are assessing how these clinics can be rescheduled as soon as possible.

Northland DHB is also assessing the impact on future clinics should the protest action continue. Alternative transport arrangements are being made to ensure that the Kaitaia community is not adversely affected.
