Key new appointments for Destination Rotorua

Destination Rotorua, the regional tourism organisation for Rotorua and a business unit of Rotorua Lakes Council, has today announced the appointment of two new members to their leadership team.

Craig Murray joins as Business Events Sales Manager and Ash Palmer has been promoted to Marketing Communications Manager.

“We’re thrilled to have secured both Craig and Ash for these positions,” says Oscar Nathan, Destination Rotorua General Manager. “Coming from Positively Wellington Venues, Craig brings a wealth of experience in business events while Ash has been achieving great results since he started with us as Communications Coordinator in January.”

Over the past five years Mr Murray has developed a strong resumé in both destination marketing and the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions space. He is currently Senior Sales Executive for Positively Wellington Venues and has a proven track record in securing large, lucrative domestic and Australasian events.

Mr Murray will lead the Business Events Sales team which has accountability for driving business event sales to both the Energy Events Centre and other Rotorua venues.

Ash Palmer joined Destination Rotorua in early 2015, bringing a broad range of marketing experience from a career in the private sector. Since then Mr Palmer has produced a number of pre-eminent destination publications, driven strong media results and helped grow Rotorua’s presence on digital platforms.

As Marketing Communications Manager he is responsible for delivering quality communications to market channels, developing relationships with key media, and enhancing the digital presence of Destination Rotorua and the wider tourism industry.

“I have real passion and belief in what we’re doing here at Destination Rotorua,” says Mr Palmer. “We have a fun, motivated team that is working hard to promote Rotorua and I’m looking forward to the extra responsibilities that come with this new role.”

Moving to Rotorua with his family, Craig Murray will join the Destination Rotorua team on October 15 Ash Palmer officially commenced as Marketing Communications Manager on Monday, September 7.
