Streetscape design for Coromandel Town Centre

Streetscape design for Coromandel Town Centre

The Coromandel-Colville Community Board has initiated the Coromandel Town Centre and Streetscape Project. The project aim is to develop a document that will provide clear reference and direction for the on-going preservation and development of Coromandel Town’s unique CBD environment and heritage character.

Drawing from previous community plans, the guidelines will include recommendations for:

• A streetscape design suite for the town centre

• Design concepts to define and enhance gateways to the town and town centre precinct

• Input results from traffic and mobility assessments

• Identify sites and opportunity for public art installations

• Landscape concepts for parks and reserves and public spaces

• Identify potential walkways and cycleways to link public spaces

A community stakeholder working group has been formed and is working interactively with the Board, Greg Hampton the Area Manager and landscape architect Kevin Dwyer to help develop the guidelines and design concepts. The stakeholder group has invited representatives from Iwi, the business, heritage and arts communities.
