Havelock North water supply being treated with chlorine

Press release

The Havelock North water supply is being temporarily treated with chlorine from today, after traces of contamination were found during routine testing.

The traces of contamination are very low and pose no threat to human health, however all such incidents have to be treated and investigated to find the source, said Hastings District Council water services manager Brett Chapman.

The treatment is expected to last about a week and council will keep residents updated.

Council wanted to alert Havelock North residents as soon as possible, as it is aware the some people have a low tolerance to the taste of chlorine. This advisory will hopefully allow those people to source their drinking water from an alternative source in the interim.
