Man faces charges after large scale cannabis recovery

Man faces charges after large scale cannabis recovery in Cambridge

Western Waikato Police say the arrest of a man in Cambridge today following the seizure of a large scale cannabis growing operation shows the value of the public in seeing something and then doing something; and that is notifying Police.

Area Commander, Inspector Naila Hassan, said Western Waikato CIB staff combined with uniformed Cambridge colleagues today to conduct a search of warehouse accomodation on Wordsworth St.

“This led to the discovery of a large commercial indoor cannabis growing operation in which over 500 plants were recovered.

“As a result of this a 23-year-old male was arrested and will be appearing in the Hamilton District Court today facing charges relating to the manufacturing of cannabis oil, cultivation of cannabis, possession of cannabis for supply and the possession of drug related equipment.”

Ms Hassan said today’s find had tied up around 10 staff including detectives, photography and forensic analysts and demonstrated how seriously Police took information from the public and their ability to take action.

“Police as a whole take the damage caused to the community by the illicit drug trade very seriously and here in the Waikato we take a whole of District approach to large scale criminal activity.

“We hope by highlighting today’s success it will further encourage other members of the community to come forward and help us reduce the impact drugs have on our society.

You can do your part by contacting Police directly or, if you are unable to do so, you can also leave information anonymously with the independent Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
