Police appeal for help to locate owners of stolen jewellery

Canterbury Police have arrested three men in their 20’s after they tried to sell stolen jewellery to a local jeweller on 2 October 2015.

The men aged 23, 24 and 27 are due to appear in Christchurch District Court on 8 October 2015 each charged with receiving stolen property over $1000.

Detective Sergeant Don Fisher says a number of items were seized following the arrests and Police are appealing to the public for help reuniting them with their rightful owners. “It is possible that the owners could be located between Auckland and Christchurch. Police are keen to hear from anyone who knows who these items belong to or have seen these items offered for sale between 1st September and 2nd October 2015.”

The photographs show the more unusual and distinctive items that have been seized. Some of the Michael Hill charms have been removed by Police to assist with identifying the legitimate owner(s).

This type of jewellery often has significant sentimental as well as monetary value.

“If you recongnise these items but haven’t worn them for some time it is a timely reminder to check your jewellery boxes to make sure your property is still where you stored it” explained Detective Sergeant Fisher.
