Firearms and cannabis seized from residential property

Canterbury Police responding to calls from concerned members of the public yesterday afternoon (8 October 2015) arrested a man pushing a motorcycle down a residential street (8 October 2015).

Acting Detective Sergeant Mark Kolmer says a Police check confirmed that the motorcycle had been reported stolen and the man had outstanding warrants to arrest. “The man was also in possession of a modified .22 calibre rifle and ammunition.”

A 29 year old man is due to appear in Christchurch District Court this morning charge with a number of charges including four warrants to arrest, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and unlawful possession of a motorcycle.

“Later that afternoon Police executed a search warrant at an address in Teddington. A quantity of cannabis, and two shotguns were seized along with a taser. Investigations are continuing and further charges may be laid” explained Acting Detective Sergeant Kolmer.

"Police would like to thank the members of the public for reporting this suspicious behaviour which ultimately led to three illegal firearms being removed from the community and a stolen motorcycle being returned to its owner. Canterbury Police are committed to removing illegal firearms off our streets as everyone has a right to be safe and feel safe in their homes and at work”
