Connecting Wellington to the World

Connecting Wellington to the World

Wellington’s connection to the world will be enhanced through a new container service to the Americas and Europe announced by CentrePort, says Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown.

“This service connects new and existing markets with the capital city and region. Exporters and importers can connect with their markets quickly and effectively.

"Our Wellington City 'Smart Capital: towards 2040' vision has a strong focus on a connected city.

“Global connections, air, sea and virtual, are a critical factor in being competitive and we are very pleased central region businesses have a new service.

“Wellington's CentrePort already contributes $2 billion a year to the region's economic activity.

“I welcome the news from CentrePort and congratulate them for their work with international shipping lines for the benefit of the whole region”.

“Wellington is a major hub for transport in New Zealand, especially for the lower North Island and top of the South Island.

"Our council 10 year plan is all about investing to grow the city and today’s announcement by CentrePort shows the city is on the right track,” she says.
