Ferry and bus survey of Beachlands Maraetai community

Ferry and bus survey of Beachlands Maraetai community

Improvements to the Pine Harbour ferry timetable, and future bus services for the Beachlands Maraetai community, are being investigated through an Auckland Transport survey.

Sealink, which operates the Pine Harbour Ferry service, is building a new vessel and AT's Ferry Services Manager, Gareth Willis says it’s an opportunity to increase the number of sailings to Auckland city during the week.

Until 2 November, the public are invited to review a proposed new Pine Harbour Ferry timetable and to give feedback. The new timetable would be implemented from January 2016.

“We hope that by giving customers more service options, it will help to make the Pine Harbour Ferry a more viable transport option for everyone within the Beachlands Maraetai vicinity to get to the City, not only commuters,” says Mr. Willis.

The ferry survey coincides with a bus network review being carried out for the same area so questions on the community’s future bus services are included in the ferry servey.

“Over the next few years we’re moving to a new bus network for all of Auckland,” says Public Transport Network Manager, Anthony Cross. “As part of the review process we’re investigating what changes are needed for the Beachlands Maraetai area.

“Knowing what kinds of journeys people would like to make by bus, what times of day they need to travel, and what key destinations are a priority to them will help us to make the best decisions for the community overall.”

Mr Cross encourages people to take part in the survey, and participate in the future of public transport for Beachlands Maraetai.

Following this, it is AT’s plans to run a second stage of bus network consultation, on possible routes and timetables created as a result of feedback from this survey.

The survey runs from 19 October to 2 November 2015.
