Village Centre Opens for Summerset at Karaka

VILLAGE CENTRE OPENS FOR SUMMERSET AT KARAKA

Summerset today announced the opening of a village centre for Summerset at Karaka. The NZ$7.5 million centre completes another development phase for the Counties-Manukau based village.

The building was opened by Summerset CEO Julian Cook and Auckland Councillor, the Hon Christine Fletcher QSO. The opening was also attended by the Hon Judith Collins, the Member of Parliament for Papakura.

In his opening address to residents, staff and invited guests, Mr Cook said he was thrilled to be bringing the full range of facilities to Summerset’s Karaka residents.

“We want to offer the choice, certainty, care and community that people desire. The village centre, which also houses our care facilities, is integral to fulfilling these needs for our residents.”

The village centre features amenities such as a Divine Café, residents’ bar and social areas, hairdressing salon, exercise room, library and IT suite and all-weather bowling green. It also will include the village’s 49-bed care centre, and 59 care apartments where residents can receive DHB-certified rest home-level care in their own homes.

Officially opening the new village centre today, the Hon Christine Fletcher emphasised the importance of retaining a sense of community for those in their retirement years.

“Summerset at Karaka provides the opportunity for local residents to stay in their neighbourhoods as well as enabling them to downscale from larger properties or farms. They can stay in the area they love, enjoy a great quality of life near to friends and family and get all the support they need.”

Summerset at Karaka is the second village situated to the south of Auckland. Only 25 minutes from the CBD, the village also offers good access to Manukau, Pukekohe, Clarks Beach and the Awhitu Peninsula.

The accessibility of the village’s location and its surrounding amenities, with good access onto the motorway and a shopping centre within walking distance, has proved very popular with residents and their families. Summerset has also bought land adjoining the existing village in Karaka, which will see the village almost double from a 3.6ha site, to a 6.8ha site.

“Since the beginning of its development in 2013 we have seen very strong demand and rapid growth of our Karaka village, and look forward to completing the rest of the village over the coming years,” Mr Cook said.

Summerset has seven sites in the Auckland region and 25 sites nationally. Across Auckland, Summerset has operational villages in Karaka, Manukau, Warkworth and Hobsonville with land sites in St Johns and Parnell. A village in Ellerslie is currently under construction and is due to be opened in late 2016.
