Lots going on in the Coromandel this Labour Weekend

From farmers' markets to live music, there is lots going on this Labour Day long weekend in the Coromandel, but as you drive around, remember there will be lots of traffic on the roads, so stay cool and stay safe.

First, a few matters of housekeeping:

Because of the long weekend, remember rubbish and recycling kerbside collections will be a day later in your area than they usually are. Check our kerbside calendar here:www.tcdc.govt.nz/kerbside

If you're leaving the Coromandel before next week's collection day for your area, please take your recycling and official blue Council rubbish bags to any of our Refuse Transfer Stations and we'll accept it for FREE.

They are all open late on Monday, until 7:30pm except Thames, which will be open until 5pm. The full schedule is here: www.tcdc.govt.nz/rts

Saturday

Whangamata Lions Craft & Farmers Market - 8am- 3pm.
Nearly 100 stalls offering a huge variety of craft, food and produce. Stalls are located inside the Memorial Hall Complex, and outside in more of an open air market. The RSA next door also holds a popular Lions Book Sale. Free.

Colville Market Day - 10am-2pm, Colville Citizens Hall, Colville Rd, Colville.
Come for some local arts, crafts and produce. Bargains: - bric-a-brac, crockery, knick-nacks, curios, garden produce, clothes etc. Fundraiser for the Community Hall. Free.

Thames Market - 8am-12noon. Pollen St, Grahamstown, Thames.
Fruit, vegetables, plants, artisan cheeses and breads, Bavarian pretzels, samosas, arts, craft and collectibles, and much more. In this most picturesque part of Thames - Grahamstown - there are a good number of excellent cafes and restaurants. Rain or shine..

Sunday

Port Charles - Kiwi Spring Festival at Tangiaro Kiwi Retreat. From 11am until late. Gold coin entry.
Seafood, pig on a spit, local beverages, live entertainment, arts and crafts an auction, kids' activities and raffles. The blind bag auction is a fundraiser for Colville School. The gold coin entry fee goes to Colville Community Health Trust. In the evening, DJ Charlie will be on the stage with karaoke for those who dare! Fire poi display begins when it gets dark.

Coroglen Farmers Market 9:30am-1pm Free. Gumtown Hall, State Highway 25, Coroglen
For seasonal & local vegetables, fruit, venison, honey, jams, chutneys, pesto, pickles, herbs, free range eggs, flowers, organic skin care products, seedlings, firewood, organic cheese, organic butter, homemade soap, olive oil, homebaking, homemade bread and more. Come along and enjoy wood fired pizza, waffles, mussel fritters, baked potatoes and many other ready to eat snacks.

Graham's Creek flood mititgation works

Remember: The Manaia Road causeway in Tairua is closed until Friday 4 December as the bridge is extended as part of flood protection works. Access to Paku Drive is via SH25 and Ocean Beach Rd during this time.

Williamson Park Redevelopment

Come to Blackies Cafe in Williamson Park on Saturday from 9am-12noon to see our concept plan to upgrade Whangamata's favourite seaside reserve, and tell us what you think. The plan involves the replacement of many of the old pines that have reached the end of their lifespan. At the same time, more space can be created for the large events such as Beach Hop that the park now hosts. The final day for submissionsto tell us what you think of the plan is 6 November.

Tairua wharf and boat ramp

Check out the concept plan to rebuild Tairua's wharf and boat ramp and provide adequate trailer boat parking and then tell us what you think. There will be an open day this Saturday at Tairua Library from 9am-12pm. Last day for submissions is 6 November.
