Price Fifth after Dressage at Pau

Price Fifth after Dressage at Pau

Tim Price is the best of the New Zealanders at the end of the dressage phase in the CCI4* at Les 4 Etoiles de Pau in France.

Aboard Wesko, Price sits in fifth place on 38.5 penalty points, with Sir Mark Todd and NZB Campino in 14th on 43.3 and Jock Paget and Clifton Signature 18th on 46.9.

Jonelle Price aboard Faerie Dianimo posted 47.7 for 19th but have withdrawn before the cross country. Also out is Dan Jocelyn on Phoenix and, in the 2* Jesse Campbell and Cleveland.

Olympic champion Michael Jung (GER) is chasing his first win at Pau and sits in the top two positions on the leaderboard, with 34.5 penalty points aboard Halunke FBW and 35.4 aboard Fischerrocana FST.

There’s a bit of history between Price and Jung – last year Price and Wesko won the CCI4* at Luhmühlen with Jung runner-up, but this year the positions were reversed at the Rolex Kentucky CCI4* where Jung took the honours ahead of Price.
In third place at Pau is teen Emily King (GBR) – daughter of top British competitor Mary King – competing in her first ever CCI4*.

Tonight is the cross country, which Todd has said looks good.
“The last water complex could be quite a big effort. There’s a big drop in and a bounce out of it. And I think the two corners in the preceding water are big. There’s lots of places where riders could be caught out,” he said.

While Pau is the end of the 2015 season, it also marks the start of the FEI Classics Series for 2015-2016, which encompasses the world’s six CCI4* events – Pau (FRA), the Australian International 3 Day Event (AUS), the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event (USA), the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials (GBR), Luhmuhlen (GER) and the Land Rover Burghley International Horse Trials (GBR).
Meanwhile, in Sydney at the Australian Dressage Championships, Julie Brougham and Vom Feinsten placed fifth in the FEI Grand Prix CDI-W last night. The class was won by Brett Parbery on DP Weltmieser with a score of 70.82%, with Brougham on 67.32%.
