Traffic diversions at Quay intersection

Traffic diversions at Quay intersection

Traffic will be diverted and parking spaces will be closed while work is carried out to replace the sewer manhole at the Gladstone Road and Reads Quay intersection.

Work will start Monday 1 November and will take approximately one week weather permitting. There may there be some tidy up work the following week.

“Due to the location once we start digging it up, traffic won’t be able to get around the excavation to turn left out of Reads Quay onto Gladstone Road,” says water utilities manager Neville West.

“It’ll also be difficult for two big trucks coming towards each other in Gladstone Road to pass in the area of the works.”

“For the safety of everyone we’re requesting that heavy vehicles divert along The Esplanade to Ormond Road and Lytton Road during the works.”

In addition, traffic coming off the bridge will not be able to go straight ahead up Gladstone Road. This is to ensure there is enough room for vehicles to pass each other around the works.

There will be a diversion in place along Customhouse Street into Childers Road. The whole of the river side lane of Reads Quay from Lowe Street to Gladstone Road will be closed for the duration of the work.

This includes parking spaces on that side of the road. The other lane will remain open. There will be a diversion in place along Lowe Street into Gladstone Road.

Mr West says one lane in Reads Quay will remain open and all of the businesses on that side of the road are open for business as normal during the works.

“If you normally park on the river side of that part of Read’s Quay you will need to make alternative arrangements that week.

“We appreciate your patience during and cooperation with contractors on site.”
