Youth Voice recruitment underway
The
Horowhenua Youth Council is now seeking new members for
2016.
Better known as Youth Voice, the group consists of around 12 young people aged from 13 to 19 years, and from throughout the District.
Youth Voice takes a role to identify and help solve issues that affect young people by playing a significant part in the delivery of Horowhenua District Council's Youth Action Plan.
Council's Community Development Advisor Garreth Stevens says members gain valuable skills by participating in team building exercises, event management, and volunteering for community groups, as well as gaining a valuable insight into governance.
"We are looking for young people who are passionate about Horowhenua and want to make a positive impact on behalf of their generation, inside and outside of the local government setting," he said.
“Youth Voice gives our young people a channel to express their needs and share their vision.”
Mr Stevens says since Youth Voice was established in 2009 its role has strengthened.
"This year they revised their own Terms of Reference, made a comprehensive submission to Council’s Draft Long Term Plan, helped run the Lower North Island Youth Council’s Conference and have been the lead agent in the review of Council’s Youth Action Plan," he said.
"They also form the ultimate youth consulting group for both Council and community-led initiatives."
Selected annually, members of Youth Voice can serve for up to two terms.
Applications are now open and will close on Friday 26 February 2016.
