Police appeal for witnesses after man admitted to hospital with gunshot wound

Canterbury Police have executed a search warrant at a residential address in the Linwood suburb of Christchurch this morning after a man in his 20’s was admitted to Christchurch Hospital with a gunshot wound this morning.

Acting Detective Sergeant Damon Wells said the man was dropped at the hospital A&E shortly after 5.30am this morning. “He was conscious and is being treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his leg. Police are currently piecing together the movements of the man prior to his injury.”

No firearms were found following a search of the residential address where the man claims to have been at the time of the incident.

Police will not speculate on the circumstances which led to the man being injured.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have heard a gun shot prior to 5.30am this morning to call Christchurch Central Police Station on 03 363 7400.
