Wellington hosts significant business conference

New Zealand's longest standing business grouping with Asia – the Japan New Zealand Business Council (JNZBC) – will hold its 43rd Annual Joint Conference in Wellington in November 2016. This will be the first time Wellington hosts the event.

“Not only is this a great opportunity for Wellington business,” says Councillor Jo Coughlan, Economic Growth and Arts Committee Chair, “the meeting enables members to collaborate, share insights and strengthen relationships that can also offer huge benefit in tourism, education and other areas.”

The Annual Joint Conference brings delegates from Japan and New Zealand together to discuss developments in trade and economic relations. It also provides opportunities for interaction during various social events where participants can renew friendships, make new contacts, and share information.

Councillor Simon Marsh, Economic Portfolio Leader for Small Medium Enterprise and Tertiary Liaison, attended the 42nd JNZBC Annual Joint Conference, held recently, in Tomakomai, Japan. “My invitation to conference delegates to attend next year’s event in Wellington highlighted the economic strengths of our region.” said Councillor Marsh. “From our role as New Zealand’s capital city to Wellington’s highly creative film and tech industry, and even our expertise in activating the city for Rugby World Cup matches, all of which provide many opportunities for new business.”

Established in May 1974, JNZBC boasts a distinguished membership of both Government and private sector representatives including Oji Holdings, Air NZ, Toshiba, Fonterra Japan, Mitsubishi Corporation, ANZ, BNZ, Bank of Tokyo among others.
