Fuel injection for Burt Munro Challenge bikers

Ferry fairies deliver fuel injection for Burt Munro Challenge bikers
In the lead up to the Burt Munro motorcycle challenge at the end of November Councils in the Wellington region are urging riders attending this event to take their time during their travels south.
Riders heading down to the challenge in
Southland will be met at the Interislander and Bluebridge
terminals with recharge packs to sustain them on their
1000km journey to the Deep South. Energy bars, electrolyte
sachets and a Kiwirider magazine are among the pack
contents, designed to keep riders alert and to promote the
taking of regular breaks.
Statistics from the NZ
Transport Agency show that in the five year period 2010-2014
in the Wellington region, there were 735 reported motorcycle
crashes - 177 resulting in death or serious injury, and 328
resulting in minor injury.
District Road Policing Manager
Inspector Mike Wright says the safety of motorcyclists is a
high priority for all road safety partners in the Wellington
region as it is nationally. “Motorcycle riding requires
high levels of concentration so we encourage all riders to
take regular stops and ride safely along the way.”
Vanessa Rushton, regional NZTA/GWRC Road Safety Campaigns Manager, says, “Events like this are really about the journey as much as the destination and we want people to enjoy themselves and return home safely.”
The ferry drops will occur before some sailings at the Interislander and Bluebridge ferry terminals in the week prior to the Burt Munro event taking place in Southland from the 26th to the 29th of November. In the meantime if you are a rider who is not attending Burt Munro but would like to receive a free tyre pressure gauge and some information on rider training please contact Vanessa Rushton - Vanessa.Rushton@gw.govt.nz.
This
initiative, led by Greater Wellington Regional Council and
the NZ Transport Agency, has been enthusiastically supported
by both Bluebridge and Interislander ferries. Funding is
provided by the Transport Agency and local councils in the
region and supported by ACC.
