More than 540 new homes for Hobsonville Point’s new Buckley B precinct
Hobsonville Point’s new Buckley B precinct will be jointly developed by Hobsonville Land Company (HLC) and AVJennings. HLC has chosen AVJennings and its builder partner team to develop stages two and three of the new precinct. Stage 1 will be developed by HLC itself and the two parties have been working collaboratively in planning this precinct.
Buckley B is the fifth precinct under
development – the third for AVJennings – at the
fast-growing community in upper harbour Auckland. AVJennings
led the development of Buckley A (800 homes), Hobsonville
Point’s first precinct to be developed. It is also
developing the Catalina precinct (544 new homes
planned).
The Buckley B precinct comprises 12.5 hectares and will allow for more than 540 dwellings. In keeping with the overall vision for Hobsonville Point, the new precinct will provide a variety of housing styles and price points, and the majority of houses will be provided at or below Auckland’s median house price.
“Buckley B represents a major new expansion in the construction of new homes at Hobsonville Point with a focus on more affordable homes and innovation,” says HLC CEO Chris Aiken.
“We’re delighted to extend our partnership with AVJennings, which has been involved at Hobsonville Point since its early days and understands the community and our approach to development very well.”
AVJennings project director Adriaan Vlok says: “We’re delighted to extend our involvement with New Zealand’s leading residential development. The Buckley B precinct agreement recognises the successful development model AVJennings is employing at Hobsonville Point. While delivering quality housing at pace to meet the Auckland demand we are also ensuring homes remain accessible and affordable for everyday Aucklanders.”
More than 300 homes are being constructed each year at Hobsonville Point, of which 20 percent is affordable housing sold under the Axis Series homes brand, priced at $550,000 or below.
Mr Vlok says that Hobsonville Point continues to play an important role in addressing Auckland’s issues of housing supply and housing affordability.
“The development has a leading role to play in demonstrating approaches that seek to address affordability without forsaking quality. We believe that both price point and speed of delivery have scope for further innovation within Hobsonville Point. Buckley B provides a timely opportunity to demonstrate to the market how this can be done,” says Mr Vlok.
Following considerable research, AVJennings has proposed four new types of homes to be produced by its builder partners in Buckley B. The typologies extend Hobsonville Point’s range of smaller, more affordable homes by increasing the efficiency of the build.
Mr Aiken says
that a feature of its Buckley B partnership with AVJennings
will be an ability to explore further research and
innovation around housing types. Areas of the precinct will
be set aside for HLC to use in innovation ‘test lab’
projects.
For example, these areas could be used to further explore the potential for higher percentages of prefabrication, shared parking typologies, shared open space designs, compact homes and local applications of high-density typologies from Europe.
